Magical Blogorail - My Least Favorite Disney Attraction

Welcome to those of you joining me from Magical Days with the Mouse and those of you who have just hopped aboard.  I am the 4th stop on our Magical Blogorail.

I must start by saying that this was difficult. My least favorite Disney attraction? How could I possibly not like something related to Disney? As difficult as it was, I do have a least favorite Disney attraction and it was after Disney went and changed it.

Originally my favorite ride in all of Disney, Journey Into Imagination is now my least favorite attraction.

I miss the original ride and although I still love Figment, I just don't like what Disney did with the attraction. Instead of the friendly and happy Dreamfinder leading you on the journey, it is now a cold Dr. Nigel Channing. The cartoon version of Figment on the screens also changed with the ride upgrade.

The ride is now more about the science of things and the senses we experience. I feel as if a lot of the "imagination" and fun part of the ride disappeared when they revamped it.

Dreamfinder & Figment at Epcot

I guess this is part of the old saying all good things must come to an end, but Disney didn't really end it, they changed it. And why change a good thing?

I'm hoping one day Disney will bring back the original "Journey Into Imagination" so that the new generation of kids (and adults as well) can enjoy what I once thought was the best attraction.

Thank you for joining me today.  Your next stop on the Magical Blogorail Loop is A Disney Mom’s Thoughts.

Here is the map of our Magical Blogorail Loop should you happen to have to make a stop along the way and want to reboard:

  1. I very much agree! The ride lost it's spark when it was revamped.

  2. I've got to ride Imagination every trip, but I miss Dream Finder too!

  3. I sooo agree with you. This upgrade seems to have missed the mark- and lacks imagination!!(Thank goodness they stuck Figment in, although a bit after the fact...)

  4. I can't say as though I have ever ridden it, and I don't remember it from before it was changed. Maybe I'll try it out once as a compare/contrast when we get there in June. Thanks for the heads up, though!

  5. I only know the old one you are talking about... sounds like that's a good thing. I really need to head back to Florida! I will say, we (my sister and I) were a little obsessed with Figment after going on that. :)

  6. I absolutely agree! I always looked forward to the original. Now we take the kids on it, and I always feel like it is lacking in the imagination department, like you said, in favor of the science of it all.

  7. Yup. I was waiting for someone to hit this one. I passionately agree with you. I have so many fond memories of the original Journey into Imagination. And, dumb as it sounds, I loved the IDEAS presented in the original. To me, it was about wise, joyous adults teaching kids how to nurture and use their imaginations. And now...it's a throwaway! Thanks for sharing and voicing what so many of us feel!

  8. Dreamfinder was awesome but I also really miss the tunnel of color! I just remember so much more fun stuff to do after the ride when I was six. Now, it's like Make your own Figment, play with musical sounds or do stuff that requires money.

I do really like the addition of Figment's house though especially being upside down.

  9. OMG, I couldn't agree more! The old Journey Into Imagination was just pure awesome. Now? Yuck! When we went back in 2010, after quite sometime away, we were so surprised & disappointed. This year when we went back again, we did not even bother to go through the attraction. Such fond memories of such a wonderful place.

  10. You are absolutely correct. Disney took a great attraction completely in the wrong direction. This would have been very close to my choice.

  11. I'm a big fan of Figment, even in his current, sweater-less incarnation. I wish there was more Figment merchandise!

  13. While we do enjoy riding this ride now, I think it's because I never got to experience the original, which makes me very sad :(
